Turn off words of encouragement

skdbhunt   January 15th, 2010 11:04p.m.

Call me a stick-in-the-mud, but I wouldn't mind if you added an option to turn off the words of encouragement. Don't spend much time on it, of course, if it is not really easy. It is not a big deal, but when I first started I thought they actually conveyed some meaning about how well I had done on a given character. After a short while, though, when you get "Excellent" or something like that after floundering around at a character right to the brink of failing it, the encouragement loses a little credibility ;)

please don't turn them off, I find them amusing and they keep me company

At least you can turn of the "Eccentric Flavour"...
I agree that it is a small issue, but I think a super-minimalistic design option in some cases would make focusing easier. I would prefer nothing visually impinging on the beautiful sanctity of the completed character.

Have you tried the Eccentric Flavor? It's a bit less boring. I'd rather not make an option unless a lot of people didn't want them--it is easy to do, but extra options start to swamp out.

I like it as it is

First of all we should not forget about the main focus of Skritter, hanzi/kanji practice, if we keep asking the creators every crazy option, we will crash the system.

I am not very familiarized with the american culture, but sometimes I think that accepting things in their primal state is quite easier and peaceful than asking endless modifications to please an ever changing flow of opinions.

Nick, please do not let you feel overwhelmed by some many requests, flow at your pace, all you three have done is great.

nick   January 16th, 2010 12:41p.m.

I'd actually have more feature requests than less. Though they get to be a lot at times, still there are surprisingly many things that we haven't thought of, and some of them make a big difference or are obvious, easy improvements.

As long as ideas are shared with an understanding that we won't do all of them, then bring on the requests! The worst response you can get is a "thanks but doesn't fit."

DojiStar   January 16th, 2010 3:09p.m.

I understand how people might want to turn it off... But, personally, I live for "Eccentric Flavour". It's the highlight of my day.

Nicki   January 17th, 2010 7:42a.m.

I love it too.

Must say i do enjoy the words of encouragement, though having Skrittered since May, I rarely even "see" them anymore.
